Like many casino games that have originated from the Orient, Pai Gow Poker can be found in all online and offline casinos. Don't confuse Pai Gow Poker with 'Poker'. Although it may have the word 'Poker' as part of its name, Pai Gow Poker has little to do with the game of Poker, other than the fact that it uses the Poker type hand rankings to determine values - these in turn are used to determine winners and losers.

Pai Gow Poker is played with a single deck of cards which includes the joker. The joker is used either as an Ace or to make a straight or a flush. Seven hands are dealt, each containing seven cards. This is the same as in Seven Card Stud. A cup containing three dice is then used to shake them, and the resulting roll of the dice determines the position of the hands, starting from the Banker's hand.

The objective of playing Pai Gow Poker

The object of Pai Gow Poker is to divide your seven card hand into a five-card ('Highest' or 'High Hand') and a two-card hand ('2nd Highest') and then beat the dealers hand. The five-card hand must always outrank the two-card hand (hence the names 'Highest'/'High Hand' and '2nd Highest/'Low Hand'). The five-card hand is ranked as in Poker, except that a A-2-3-4-5 straight is the second highest straight. The two-card hand can be either a pair or individual cards. The highest two-card hand is a pair of aces and the lowest is a 2-3.

Determing winning poker hands

Winning and losing Pai Gow Poker hands are determined solely on the no-draw value of cards initially dealt, as positioned by the player in the 'Highest'/'High Hand' and 2nd Highest'/'Low Hand' categories, versus the same arrangement as performed by the 'Banker.'
