World Series of Poker 2008 final table delayed
Harrah’s Entertainment, organisers of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), have announced that they will delay the final table of the 2008 tournament for 117 days after the final competitors win their seats.
Harrah’s have made the shock decision in an attempt to build up the anticipation of the event and the final knockings of the final table will now be broadcast on ESPN during primetime on November 11.
"Our goal is to create a greater sense of anticipation for the outcome of the final table," said WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.
"We're changing the equation, if you will. We want as many people around the world as possible to be asking 'Who will win?' and the best way to do that is to make the decision we've made. If there's more buzz and water-cooler talk, just as there would be around the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, or the Daytona 500, then we've done a great thing for the game of poker."
The WSOP Main Event is due to start in July 3 and ESPN will be doing everything they can to build up the hype to the final table, with special documentaries on the players life preceding the final broadcast.
