William Hill joins Turf TV
William Hill, the bookmaker, has signed up to Turf TV to provide live horse racing coverage in its shops after a long-drawn-out row.
The well-known high-street bookie has followed Ladbrokes and Coral in resentfully signing up with Turf TV, leaving Betfred as the last remaining bookmaker of the ‘Big Four’ yet to sign.
"This will allow all UK racing to be shown in the William Hill estate of licensed betting offices in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man, Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland," William Hill said.
However, it is thought that Turf TV’s new service, which broke up the monopoly on horse-racing coverage previously enjoyed by Satellite Information Services (SIS), will increase the costs of some bookies by £50 million a year.
Nevertheless, going without live horse-racing when your rival down the street may have the coverage is something a bookmaker could not entertain. So expect Betfred to follow suit shortly.
Turf TV’s latest signing has been another shot in the arm for Alphameric, the London Stock Exchange-listed company behind Turf TV.
