Warne turns poker pro with 888.com – gets text penalty
Australian Test cricket legend Shane Warne will begin a new career as a poker professional after signing a deal with online poker company 888.com.
"Nothing will replace the 20 years of cricket in my life, but there are a lot of similarities," Warne told the Australian newspaper the Herald Sun.
"It's a game of skill that has a lot of analogies to cricket. You have to be very, very disciplined."
Warne revealed that he has been playing poker with friends for the last five years and recently has been taken under the wing by Joe Hachem, winner of the World Series of Poker 2005.
Warne’s first game as a poker professional began at the Aussie Millions at Melbourne’s Crown Casino although he understands he has “got a lot more to learn about the game.”
An admission that could not be more accurate after Warne sent a text message on his mobile phone whilst playing at the tables during the event. He consequently received a five-minute penalty.
After accidentally sending a text to his former wife, Simone Callahan, which was meant for his lover, you think Warne would be a little more careful.
