U.S. casinos continue to feel the pinch

U.S. casinos are still continuing to feel the pinch of an unfavourable economy as casinos in Nevada report a fall in gaming revenue for the fourth month in a row.

Nevada’s Gaming Control Board reported that Nevada casinos won $1 billion in April. Although that appears to be a monumental amount, that figure is down 5 per cent from the same month a year ago.

The April takings for casinos in Las Vegas, the hub of the industry in Nevada, were also down – 1.3 per cent to $524.1 million.

According to the Control Board, those people who continue to make the journey to casinos, despite rising fuel costs, are being a lot more frugal with their money.

"People are still coming in and playing. They're just not playing as much," Control Board analyst Frank Streshley said.
