UK slot machine ruling delayed
Bingo and amusement arcade operators will have to wait until after parliament’s spring break to hear back from the government regarding their calls to relax laws that have reduced the number of slot machines allowed in their premises.
The new laws, as part of the Gambling Act 2005, have removed thousands of high-profit machines that have left many bingo and amusement arcade operators on the brink of survival.
Initially, gambling and sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe said he would make a statement today regarding the calls but that has now been delayed. What’s more, it is likely that no immediate changes will be made to the law – only a review of the law.
"It's a complex issue, discussions are still ongoing, and we will make an announcement in due course," said a government spokeswoman.
