UK Advertising Crackdown
The UK online gambling industry is awaiting news regarding the advertising of online casinos and poker following an inquiry by the government. The government has threatened to bring statutory controls over advertising for online gambling due to subsequent evidence that casino operators have been breaking the law.
Tessa Jowell, secretary of State for Culture, has also asked the prosection service to consider taking legal action over gambling advertising that offers consumers incentives to gamble such as bonuses that double the punters initial stake. Jowell stated that action would be taken if advertising continued to cross the line.
Offenders could face up to two years in prison.
