Sportingbet founder resigns

Sportingbet PLC, the British gambling company, has announced that Mark Blandford, one of the founders of the company, has stepped down from his role as executive director. Former colleague Bob Holt, a non-executive director of the company, has also resigned.

"As the company continues to drive further efficiencies from its business, we have agreed to reduce the size of the board," said Sportingbet’s Chief Executive Andrew McIver.

Sean O’Connor, senior director, will take over the role as chairman of the audit committee, the post previously held by Holt, with immediate effect. Blandford and Holt will both pursue other business interests, Sportingbet also announced.

SportingBet have been one of the online gambling companies hit hardest by the US’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and saw its chairman, Peter Dicks, arrested last year. Shortly after, the company pulled out of the US gambling market and sold their US facing operations for the tiny sum of $1.
