Sportingbet stay away from France

After the arrest in the US of its former chairman, Peter Dicks, Sportingbet now has now stated that its directors will not be seen in France following the further arrest of two of Bwin.com’s directors.

Andy McIver, Sportingbet’s new chief executive, said that the move was purely precautionary since the group do not actively advertise in France.

“Our understanding is that we don’t have an issue in France. But following the Bwin arrests we decided that as a board we wouldn’t travel to France because we felt we were in enough hot water with the Peter Dicks situation in the US,” he said.

In line with other online casino operators, Sportingbet took a massive hit from the US legislation, with a likely loss of £210 million against profits for the year to July 2007.
