Rank and Coral back super-casino climb-down
The Liberal Democrats, Daily Mail and Salvation Army have joined Rank and Gala Coral in expressing relief at the U-turn made by Gordon Brown on the future of Manchester’s proposed super-casino. The unlikely alliance between the gambling industry, liberals and a right wing newspaper have joined forces and praised the Prime Minister.
The Rank and Gala Coral alliance believe that a super-casino in Manchester would provide them with unfair competition and draw profits from their existing operations in the city.
Both Rank and Gala Coral have said they do not have any interest in operating super-casinos in the UK. However, they have expressed interest in operating large casinos should the opportunity arise. This enthusiasm may be tempered by the impending 50 per cent tax on large gambling venues also brought to the table by Gordon Brown.
