Prince William to marry a commoner?
Following the split of Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton, UK bookmaker William Hill has opened a book on who the young prince will eventually marry.
Odds on favourite at 1/2 is for Prince William to marry an Aristocrat (Honourable, Lady or other family title) with 2/1 being offered for him to marry a member of another European Royal Family.
However, if William follows in the footsteps of his father, Prince Charles, who married Diana who was then a commoner, William Hill are offering odds of 5/1.
Surprisingly, despite their spilt, William Hill are seeing good money put on the pair getting back together and are advising punters who may have had a bet on the couple getting married, to hold on to their betting slip.
“The British public love a Royal Wager and the royal split has cost them fifty grand as the vast majority of bets we have accepted were for Will's and Kate to get engaged in 2007, but we are seeing good money for the pair to get back together so I suggest punters hang on to their betting slips as they might still be winners,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
More extravagant bets on offer include Prince William to marry any named celebrity at 100/1.
That list includes Aussie pop queen Kylie Minogue, the infamous Paris Hilton, the shaven-headed Britney Spears, page 3 model Keeley Hazell, Russian tennis bombshell Maria Sharapova, the mature Ulrika Jonsson, the very common Jade Goody, the mischievous Kelly Osbourne and goldigger Heather Mills.
William Hill is also offering 10/1 that William and Kate decide that they have made a mistake and get engaged by 2010 following a surprising amount of backing.
