Illinois man changes name to Payton Manning

After Sunday’s Superbowl, fans will no longer be cheering “there’s only one Peyton Manning” because, pretty soon, there will be two.

Chicago Bears fan Scott Wiese was so certain his team would overcome the Indianapolis Colts that he bet five of his friends that he would change his name to Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning if they didn’t.

And following the Bears 29-17 defeat to the Colts, Wiese is honouring his bet.

"I made the bet, and now I've got to keep it," said the 26-year-old, who lives in Forsyth, Illinois.

Paperwork has already been handed in to start the process and after that Wiese will have to advertise his name change in a local paper for several weeks. Finally, a judge will have to give his intentions approval before Wiese can be called Peyton.

Although Wiese promised he will carry out the name change, he said he won’t keep the name forever.

Well, perhaps until The Bears get to another Superbowl anyway.
