Online gambling outlawed in US
The Port Securities Bill designed to bolster United States terror laws was signed by George W. Bush today. The bill also includes legislation banning online gambling in the US. As shockwaves ran through the online gambling community a number of casino groups announced that they would no longer be servicing US customers.
The Port Securities Bill was actually designed to prevent terrorists from sneaking a nuclear, chemical or germ weapons into the US. The new law calls for radiation detectors at most big ports and requires background checks for port workers. It was only after Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist worked into the night to get the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGE) attached to the ‘must have’ bill that a possible ban on internet gaming became reality.
