No smoking in Atlantic City casinos
The news that Atlantic City Council has voted unanimously to ban smoking in the gambling halls of the city’s casinos has been met with joy by the city’s casino workers.
However, gamblers will still be able to light-up in unstaffed smoking lounges – but that’s only if the 11 casinos in the city decide to build the areas.
In January 2007, the city tried to pass a full ban on smoking in casinos but backed down after pressure from the casinos, which claimed there would be a great loss in revenue that would result in the loss of up to 3,400 jobs.
Casino employees will still have to wait a long time to be smoke-free - the new ban doesn’t get introduced until October 15.
