National Lottery licence winner announced Aug 7
The winner of the UK’s national lottery licence will be announced on August 7, with either current incumbent Camelot or Mumbai-based Sugal & Damani winning the right to operate one of the most lucrative lotteries in Europe.
Camelot has run the UK lottery since it first began in 1994 and is many people’s favourite to retain the licence. Many potential bidders were put off bidding for the licence, including Virgin and Ladbrokes, because they felt Camelot were in too strong a position to be beaten.
The National Lottery Commission has stated that the new operator must improve technology systems as well as proposing ideas for new games to push up lottery sales.
Camelot has also raised over £19 billion for good causes since the inception of the National Lottery and believes it is fully-deserving of the new lottery licence which will last ten years.
