Monte Carlo casino fire costs $100m damage

US casino operator MGM Mirage Inc. has estimated that the repair costs and lost business from the January fire at its Monte Carlo casino will be around the $100 million mark.

The casino is due to reopen today with 1,200 of the hotel’s 3,000-plus rooms also opening.

Seventeen people were injured in the fire with minor injuries. The fire was blamed on workers using a cutting torch on the roof which caused sparks to ignite a fire.
