Two share largest lottery jackpot in US history
Two lucky people in America are to share the countries biggest ever lottery jackpot of $390 million (£202m) in the Mega Millions lottery.
A trucker from Georgia, Ed Nabors, 52, was the first to come forward to claim his $116,557,083 winnings. Nabors was at work in his truck when he found out the news as he checked his lottery ticket against the Mega Millions winning numbers in a local newspaper.
"I just went numb. I just sat there and looked at both the paper and the ticket, you know," Nabors told a news conference after he had picked up his winnings.
However, when asked how he would spend his money it seems Nabors will resist the frivolous lifestyle for the time being at least and will treat his family instead.
"I'm going to do a lot of fishing," Nabors said.
"My daughter has wanted a house and to get out of a mobile home for a long time and I think she just got it."
Nabors winning numbers were 16-22-29-39-42 plus a Mega Ball of 20.
However, the identity of the other winning ticket is yet to be discovered although it is known the ticket was bought in New Jersey, traced to the Campark Liquors in Woodbine.
“It's the most wonderful thing,'' said Campark manager Fern Gandy.
“We have so many wonderful customers here. I'm just glad it was one of them.”
However, although two people shared the jackpot, there remains a third winner: the U.S government. They will receive one-third of the jackpot in taxes - totalling $130 million.
