Judge dismisses jackpot case against casino
A state district judge has dismissed a case brought against the Sandia Resort & Casino by a man who claimed he won a jackpot of nearly $1.6 million whilst playing on a slot machine.
Gary Hoffman claims he won the jackpot in August 2006 but the casino refused to payout because they said the machine was not functioning correctly.
An attorney representing the casino argued that the tribe behind the casino could not be sued in a district court because of sovereign immunity. The judge also saw it that way.
Sam Bregman, Hoffman’s attorney, says an appeal will be launched.
