Judge arrested for running illegal casino
A Chinese judge has been arrested after police discovered his money-spinning illegal casino which he ran no more than 200 metres from the local police headquarters.
Judge Feng Jianxiang, who presided in the Lishi District Court in the Shanxi province of northern China, was caught earlier this month as police stormed the gambling den. A further 122 people were also arrested.
Feng Jianxiang used his knowledge and position within the law to run the casino under the protection of local law officials.
"He was tied in too close to the local law and order departments, and that’s how he was able to brazenly run a casino for over a year," a police report quoted one local resident as saying.
"Because Feng was a judge, everyone felt safe there."
