FA to probe betting on Redknapp job (again)
Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp, is once again at the centre of a betting probe after it has been discovered that a high-profile football figure wagered £300,000 on Redknapp becoming Newcastle manager.
If reports are to be believed, the bet was placed on the evening of January 11, when Redknapp is believed to have agreed to taken the job, only to change his mind the next day. Kevin Keegan eventually took the hot-seat.
It is thought that the individual in question was involved in the last Harry Redknapp betting probe, when he moved form Southampton back to Portsmouth. That investigation centred around a £16.7 million betting market on the online betting exchange website Betfair.
From the subsequent investigation, no parties where found guilty of any misdemeanours.
Although there is no suggestion that Redknapp has passed on insider information to another individual, the recurrence of his name popping up again in this type of situation will undoubtedly signal a thorough investigation.
