Cheltenham Festival: Tuesday Betting Odds
After the severe storms that swept across southern and western England and Wales yesterday, organisers have battled hard to ensure that the world’s most famous National Hunt meeting goes ahead as planned.
Strong winds reaching speeds of over 50 mph have caused damage to a hospitality area, which was completely destroyed, as well as the starter’s rostrum which was toppled over. Thankfully, the racecourse itself has remained untouched by the wind and rain.
Over 55,000 spectators are expected to descend on the racecourse today. However, those coming from Ireland may have a few problems. Many ferries across the channel have been cancelled and planes would be more than a bumpy ride.
In the big race of the day, the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy, which gets underway at 15:15, Sizing Europe is the favourite at best odds of 5/2.
However, at 11/2 Osana is receiving the backing of many tipsters. With a great victory in the Sunderlands Imperial Cup, many believe he has improved markedly since falling short to Sizing Europe in the Greatwood Hurdle.
In the Boylesports.com International of December last year, Osana surprisingly (but impressively) blew away a couple of his rivals today – Katchit (11/1) and Sublimity (7/1).
Osana likes to lead from the front – whether he can last the pace will be proven in a few hours time.
