Fresh casino project for Macau
In a novel project for the casino paradise of Macau, Macau Studio City has chosen Taubman Asia as its retail partner for an ambitious $2 billion project.
The leisure resort will combine theatre, television, film, retail, gaming and entertainment. Taubman Asia will focus on the retail element of the project and the resort will be located on the Cotai Strip of Macau.
"We are pleased to involve Taubman Asia in this project," said Mr. Peter Lam, co-chairman of Macao Studio City.
"Taubman brings critical experience in the design, development and management of world-class retail destinations."
The project, backed by a consortium made up of Hong Kong's Lai Sun and Singapore's Capital Land, will be developed by Cyber One Agents, a joint venture between eSun Holdings (an associate company of Lai Sun) and New Cotai LLC.
The first phase of Macau Studio City is expected to be completed by 2009, with 20 resorts planned for the next decade costing over $25 billion.
However, developers see the resort as more than just a gambling venue and believe it can have a huge effect of the dynamics of the region.
"This is a project that can change the region, that can change the tourism make-up of Macau, that can change society," claimed architect Paul Steelman, designer of the ground-breaking Las Vegas Sands in Macau.
