Casino CEO steps down
After eight years with Stanley Leisure, the UK casino operator, Bob Wiper has stepped down from his role as Chief Executive.
Wiper had helped Stanley Leisure grow into the UK’s biggest casino operator, with a total of 45 casinos throughout the country. Stanley Leisure, who were bought by Malaysia’s Genting Bhd last October, have more expansion plans ahead as the UK heads towards relaxing gambling laws upon the introduction of the new Gambling Act next year.
Stanley will apply for new casino licences the UK Government will grant next year, including the one licence which is set aside for the UK’s first super casino.
Stanley presently has five casino applications being considered and has licences already granted for new gambling venues in Nottingham, Liverpool and Sheffield.
Finance Director Colin Child, who will take up Wiper’s old role as of February 1st 2007, wished Wiper the best of luck in his future and gave a striking insight into the character of the man.
“Although he has not decided what to do next, Bob’s immediate time and effort will be spent rebuilding his new home,” said Child.
“I am sure, like all of us at Stanley, the builders will soon learn to ‘enjoy’ and ‘value’ Bob’s direct and decisive manner, his plain speaking, his vision and, most of all, his unconventional and colourful management style.”
