Bwin fail in bid to have German betting ban reversed

Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG, the Austrian-based online gaming company, has failed in its bid to have a German internet gambling ban over-turned in Germany’s highest civil court.

The company had appealed to the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe to stop a September court ruling which banned the company taking bets from German-based customers through its www.bwin.com website.

Nevertheless, the company remains optimistic that they will eventually have the ruling reversed.

“Bwin and its legal advisers are confident that we will finally win this case,” the company said in a statement.

Bwin argues that they can offer bets to German customers because they have a licence from Gibraltar and a permit from the former East German government issued shortly before the fall of the Berlin wall.
