Early betting for Hatton and Mayweather super-fight
The fight that everyone in the world wanted is on. Ricky ‘Hitman’ Hatton will take on ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd Mayweather on December 8th in Las Vegas in the most hotly-anticipated fight in years.
Both men will put their undefeated records on the line in a fight which will be a career-defining moment for both men, but perhaps more so for Hatton. If he can overcome the quickness, silkiness and smoothness of Mayweather, who is currently regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Hatton will be elevated to a new stratosphere.
However, Hatton will have to step up from his natural light-welterweight to welterweight and will be giving away 7ins in reach. Hatton has only fought at welterweight once before, against Luis Collazo, and was not at his destructive best. As such, Hatton will start as outsider in the bout.
“Hatton is a great fighter but he has to beat the best in Floyd Mayweather and Ricky will start as the outsider,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
Hatton is 7/4 with William Hill, while Mayweather is 2/5 favourite.
Nevertheless, Hatton’s trainer Billy Graham is confident his man will prove to be victorious.
"I've said for a long time that Ricky is the best pound-for-pound fighter to come out of Great Britain, ever. When he beats Floyd Mayweather everyone will agree with me,” said Graham.
