£8m lottery winner forgot about ticket
A lottery player has finally come forward to claim a four month old £7.9 million jackpot – after almost completely forgetting about the ticket.
The winner – who has asked to remain anonymous – from North Yorkshire, was on holiday when the draw was made and had forgotten about the ticket. They luckily stumbled upon the ticket when going through some drawers.
They had until November 15 to claim their jackpot prize before all of it would have been donated to the lottery’s good causes fund. Nevertheless, the four months it took the person to claim the prize means they have missed out on around £160,000 in interest. Nevermind.
"We are delighted the winner has now come forward and we hope they will enjoy their win. It would have been awful if the ticket holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money,” said a spokesman for the National Lottery.
