888.com in merger talks
In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, 888 Holdings have said that it has been in talks with “third parties following the suspension of its U.S activities. It added that the talks were merely preliminary and there was no certainty of the talks leading to an offer.
The statement was in response to speculation over the weekend that 888 had been in discussions with PartyGaming and additional rumours that Ladbrokes may also be involved in talks.
Both 888 and PartyGaming have their offices in the same building in Gibraltar though sources close to 888 suggested that talks had not progressed any further than a “coffee and a chat”.
As online operators look to realign and restructure amid the aftermath of the U.S online gambling laws, one unnamed industry executive stated that "it seems all gaming companies are talking to each other about all sorts of possibilities."
Poker is said to have been hit the hardest by the online gambling laws, with both 888.com and PartyGaming showing a decline in earnings from their poker platforms.
