888 Hope To Move Into Sports Betting
Gigi Levy the chief executive of 888, the online gaming giant has confirmed that he is currently trying to break into the money spinning UK sports betting market which is believed to be worth around £35 billion a year.
888 plan to launch their own sports betting service before the end of the year. This will see them competing directly with their would-be partner, Ladbrokes.
The UK government have one new sports betting contract to hand out, along with 888, Blue Square, the online gaming arm of Rank Group, who own Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casino brands is in the running.
Recently Ladbrokes were in talks with 888 discussing the possibility of a takeover which would have been given 888 access to sports betting, however the deal collapsed.
If 888 is successful in securing a sports betting contract the company will have what is termed as the ‘holy trinity’ of online gaming and betting in its portfolio, covering poker, casino and sports betting.
