£20,000 bet on 100/1 shot
In either an act of pure genius or stupidity, one man has put on a £10,000 each way bet on a 100/1 outsider Little Brick in this year’s Grand National with Ladbrokes.
David Pipe telephoned his bet on through to Ladbrokes and stands to win a whopping £1.25 million should his long-shot come good.
"This has to go down as the single most ambitious National bet we've ever seen. If the horse is in contention coming to the last, we'll be very worried," admitted Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams.
"We've never before paid out a million quid to anyone on the race so Little Brick would go down in history as a horror horse for us."
The huge bet forced Ladbrokes to slash the odds on the horse to 50/1 and then further down to 25/1 following more support.
"We wondered if the monster bet was a one-off but it appears the horse has now got real momentum. Of the many horses we expected to see good money for, Little Brick was right down at the bottom of our list. Punters are still backing him at 25/1,” Williams added.
However, Little Brick remains at 40/1 with Totesport.
Despite putting in some impressive jumping performances in France, the eight-year old horse has yet to race in Britain. That debut will happen this Saturday with Little Brick starting in the Red Square Vodka Gold Cup at Haydock and is priced at 12/1.
You can bet your mortgage on Ladbrokes watching that race with more than a keen eye.
