5% of UK iPhone Users have sportsbook apps
Recent research that has been carried out by mobile data firm, Onavo, shows that nearly 5% of all iPhone users in the UK use sportsbook applications on their devices.
The data, which Onavo shared with The Guardian newspaper, revealed that the most popular sportsbook app is William Hill's, with 38% of people choosing to bet on sports via its iOS application. Not far behind William Hill is Paddy Power, with 32% of punters choosing to use its service, and bet365 ranked third with 24% of the customer base.
Mobile sportsbooks have become very important to Paddy Power's and Hill's revenue streams over the year to-date, with Paddy Power reporting a 112% growth in this sector since May 2012, and Hills seeing sports fans place more than £15m in mobile wagers in the first financial quarter of 2013.
Despite only taking third place, Onavo's research reveals that bet365's betting app is the most engaging, with bettors using it around 5.5 days per month on average, compared to closer to 4 days for William Hill and 3.3 for Paddys.
Rather than staying loyal to one particular application, Onavo's CEO says that people are using a range of apps. For example, he says, of the bet365 mobile base, 17% also use Betfred, and 10% use Paddy.
