Genting have announced plans to close three gambling venues in Leicester, Great Yarmouth and Manchester. It’s believed that the closures will affect more than 70 staff, although employees at Leicester Electric Circus and Manchester Mint will be redeployed to other Genting properties in the regions.
Speaking about the closures, Paul Wilcock, the managing director for Genting Casinos UK announced that “is with regret that we are proposing to close three of our premises”, before proposing that the decision was based purely on economic factors. Wilcock also reiterated that Genting hopes to relocate staff who will be affected by the closures.
Adrian Baker, National Casinos Organiser for the GMB Union, has suggested that GMB will be seeking talks with Genting “on all the options open” for the Great Yarmouth staff, “including relocation to others parts of the country and decent severance arrangements”.
