You may remember that some time ago a big fuss was kicked up about talks taking place between Ladbrokes and 888. The plan was for Ladbrokes, operators of their own Ladbrokes casino, to take control of their online casino rival in a deal potentially worth hundreds of millions of pounds. However, things have all gone very quiet recently with neither involved party making any announcements about whether there has been any progress towards a deal being reached.
Reasons for the slow pace of the deal are thought to be 888’s poor performance in 2010, due mainly to low online poker revenue. However, 888’s other online gambling products – which include 888 Casino – continue to perform well and as a result talks have continued.
888’s chief executive Gigi Levy said: “Following a challenging start to the year 888 finished 2010 strongly.”It is thought that continued strong performances by 888’s online gambling products will increase the chances of a takeover deal being reached.
